Raleigha is the oldest sibling of 5, the oldest niece, and the granddaughter on both sides of her family. She has always been in command and a leader at heart. Being the oldest granddaughter she cared for and assisted with her younger siblings and cousins and that is when she found her love for caring for children. Raleigha started her career in the childcare industry in 2002. She volunteered at her church, was a nanny for families, and worked at several daycares and private preschools.
Her importance in creating and developing Raleigha’s Diaper Bank is personal to her. Her sister, who was already the mother of a toddler, was pregnant with her second baby. Due to the severity of the morning sickness her sister received she was unable to care for her toddler and go to work. Not being able to work she was forced to take off work without pay. Along with other financial difficulties diapers for her toddler was an issue Raleigha felt like she could assist with. While searching for assistance for someone who needed it temporarily Raleigha was unsuccessful because there wasn’t anything available for her sister since she wasn’t receiving any government assistance.
This is not the first time Raleigha has witnessed a situation like this. While working at a childcare establishment in her home state she was able to collect unused diapers from families who no longer needed them. She kept the diapers available for families in the centers that would have a hard time keeping up with the demand of their child’s needs. Raleigha moved to Houston, Texas 2018 to be a nanny for her sister’s firstborn so being new in town she reached out to the local community to gain support and was unable to find any and that’s how Raleigha’s Diaper Bank was born.
