Ramona Willis has always had a heart for people, especially those deemed to be less fortunate. Being a single working mom of three, she understands the importance of having quality childcare to take care of her children while working. To assist those families, she became registered as a Listed Family Home childcare facility in the state of Texas in February 2019, Ramona is licensed to keep only three children in her home. Her goal is to expand to a facility that can enroll eight children or more, to serve parents in need of childcare but is financially challenged. 

Ramona is also aware of the needs of the older adult population now and in the future. She understands the lack of social engagement that many long for and are unable to obtain. A lot of the adult population live alone or may be left home alone by family members who need to leave the home for work, school or other reasons. Social isolation and loneliness are public health issues that affect more than one-third of adults, with seniors most at risk of depression, substance abuse, and suicide triggered by feelings of isolation. It is also contributing factors to increasing heart disease, stroke, and dementia. Health risks associated with loneliness and social isolation are comparable to the dangers of smoking and obesity, increasing mortality risk by up to 30%. These are some of the reasons that led her to establish the Because We Care Community Foundation. 

Because We Care Community Foundation is determined to develop an active, safe environment for the adult population right where they are. Whether in a separate facility or at home, it’s important for the aging population to feel wanted, appreciated, and valued. Our projected programs will aid in non-medical companionship that will help with maintaining or enhancing their quality of life through social, physical, and intellectual activities. Personally, designing daily activities based on each client’s mental capacity and mobility.
